Disciplina sine qua nihil. Without discipline, nothing.
This page sets out the real-world standards expected of every member, candidate, and visitor in any Republic-controlled space — Discord, voice channels, in-game group chat, and any other communication channel the organisation operates.
The Code of Conduct is not part of the in-universe doctrine. It is the out-of-character (OOC) ground rule. It applies in plain English. It is enforced by Officers and the moderation team in the operational sense — not by the Holy Office in the narrative sense.
If there is ever a conflict between the in-fiction doctrine and this Code of Conduct, this Code of Conduct prevails.
1. Members are People First
Every person on the other side of the channel is a human being deserving of basic respect. The fiction does not change that. The grimdark register is a register, not a licence.
- Address other members civilly. Disagreement is fine; contempt is not.
- The doctrine targets fictional in-universe enemies, never real people.
- Member-to-member tone is collegial, not in-character toward each other unless the scene is consensually framed as such.
2. Zero Tolerance
The following result in immediate removal, no warning, no escalation:
- Harassment of members on the basis of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic.
- Sexualised content involving minors. Sexualised content directed at any member without consent.
- Threats of real-world harm to any person, real or imagined.
- Doxxing — sharing personal information about another member without explicit consent.
- Use of slurs.
- Holocaust denial, genocide apologetics, or extremist political organising.
The Republic operates on Discord, in voice, in game. It does not extend the fiction’s harshness to anyone.
3. Politics, Religion, and Heavy Subjects
The Republic’s fiction is grimdark. Real-world politics, religion, and heavy ideological discussions are not part of the activity.
- Members are welcome regardless of personal belief, political alignment, or background.
- Out-of-character discussion of contested real-world political topics, current events of a polarising nature, or proselytising of religious or ideological positions is not welcome in Republic spaces.
- This is not about silencing opinion. It is about keeping the gaming space focused on play. Take heated topics elsewhere.
A member who confuses the in-fiction doctrine with real-world political advocacy will be removed.
4. The OOC Safety Pause
At any moment, in any scene, any participant may declare an OOC Safety Pause. The scene halts immediately, without consequence, without explanation, without prejudice.
- The pause is unconditional. The Officer presiding accepts it.
- The pause is for any real-world reason — fatigue, discomfort, time pressure, distress.
- The pause does not pardon a heresy in the fiction; it halts the scene. The doctrinal question is taken up out of scene, in OOC mode, with the relevant Officer.
The doctrine lives inside the fiction. The pause lives outside it.
5. Adults Only
The Republic admits adults only (minimum age: the legal age of majority in the member’s jurisdiction, and not less than 18).
- Recruits confirm their age during onboarding.
- Members who misrepresent their age and are subsequently identified as minors are removed without prejudice.
- The adults-only standard reflects the harsh aesthetic of the fiction and the registers used in voice and text. It is not negotiable.
6. Respect for Platforms
The Republic operates within the terms of service of every platform it uses — Discord, the games it plays in, voice services, this site’s host (Cloudflare).
- Members do not use Republic spaces to coordinate violations of platform rules.
- Members do not weaponise the Republic’s structure to harass third parties on or off platform.
- Where a platform’s rules are stricter than this Code of Conduct, the platform’s rules prevail in that space.
7. Disputes and Reporting
If you experience or witness conduct that violates this Code:
- Bring it to an Officer (rank: Centurio or higher) directly. Officers are listed in the Discord roster.
- If the Officer is the subject of the complaint, escalate to a Praetor of the Praetoria Civium (membership directorate).
- If the complaint is sensitive and you prefer to bypass the chain, contact a member of High Command directly.
All complaints are taken seriously. The Republic protects the reporter by default.
8. Enforcement
This Code is enforced by the moderation team on Discord and in voice — not by the Holy Office.
- First clear violation: warning, recorded.
- Repeated or severe violation: temporary suspension or removal from rank.
- Zero-tolerance categories (Section 2): immediate, permanent removal.
Disputes about enforcement go to High Command. Decisions of High Command on conduct matters are final.
9. Changes
This Code of Conduct may be updated. Material changes are announced in the official Discord and on this page. Continued participation after a published update constitutes acknowledgement.
We hold the line in the fiction. We hold the standards out of it.
