Visual Identity — the Republic's mark

Visual Identity

I §1 Purpose

The Republic's visual mark is not decoration. It is doctrine compressed into form. Each element — geometry, colour, inscribed word — carries institutional authority and answers one of the Republic's questions: who we are, against whom we stand, what we do, how we are organised. The present doctrine fixes those elements in operational form and prevents drift.

This document has a triple purpose:

  • To register the official visual identity.
  • To bind every internal and external communicational act to one signature.
  • To protect the mark against erosion, banalisation, or appropriation.
The mark is not interpretable. It is applied.
II §2 Canonical Symbol — Sigillum Vigiliae

§2.1 — Structural description

The Republic's seal is a composite glyph, read from the outside in across three concentric planes:

  • Plane I — Cardinal Frame. A square of absolute black, with four red wedges projected at the cardinal points (north, south, east, west). The wedges evoke the vigil-cross — sentinel in every direction. It reads as: the watch that does not sleep.
  • Plane II — Circle of Doctrine. A double circle inscribed within the square, in graphite-grey line. The circle encloses doctrine; the void between the two strokes is the limbo of discipline — the space where heresy is named before it is answered.
  • Plane III — "T-V" Glyph (Triangle-Vigil). At the centre, an inverted triangle (apex downward) in crimson red, white-outlined. Within it, cut out, the "V" sign — the V of Vigilo. Read together they form the letter "T" — Terra, Terra Sacra. One sign, two names: the Earth that watches itself.

Along the inner edges of the triangle run, in gold, the ten cardinal virtues (§3).

§2.2 — Doctrinal reading

  • Black square — Space under the Republic's jurisdiction.
  • Four red wedges — Vigilance at the four cardinal points.
  • Double grey circle — Limit of doctrine; perimeter of the Sacramentum.
  • Inverted red triangleTerra Sacra held up from below; humanity as foundation, not appendage.
  • White outline — Institutional purity; line dividing outside from inside.
  • Inner "V" glyphSemper Vigilo; vigilance as verb.
  • Gold inscriptions — The ten virtues; incorruptible word.

§2.3 — Authorised variants

  • Full (chromatic) — protocol, official, ceremonial, recruitment use.
  • Gold monochrome — decorations, memorials, Acta Gladii.
  • White monochrome — operational use over dark backgrounds (hulls, night-vigil uniforms).
  • Black monochrome — documentary use over light backgrounds (internal paperwork).
  • Red silhouette — restricted use for territorial marking (Iurisdictio Territorialis).

Any further variant requires sanction by the Communications & Propaganda Directorate.

III §3 The Ten Cardinal Virtues

The gold inscriptions on the glyph enumerate the virtues the Sworn Citizen professes. They are not adornment. They are summons.

  • HONOR — Fidelity to one's own name and to the Republic's.
  • INTEGRITY — Coherence between word, oath, and act.
  • COURAGE — To advance when the reward is silence.
  • DUTY — Performance without calculation.
  • RESPONSIBILITY — Answer for both act and omission.
  • LOYALTY — Subordination to Consilium Primum and doctrine.
  • JUSTICE — Proportional application of Ius Gladii Doctrinae.
  • HUMANITY — The cause: the survival and primacy of the human species.
  • RESPECT — Recognition of rank and merit.
  • SELF-DISCIPLINE — Mastery of impulse; refusal of excess.

The order of the virtues follows the glyph's geometry and does not change.

IV §4 Official Colour Palette

The Republic operates with a closed palette of five colours. Anything outside this palette is not institutional.

§4.1 — Primary colours

  • Crimson Red (Carmesim Vigília)#661414 — RGB 102 / 20 / 20 — Doctrinal red: wedges, central triangle, blood of the vigil.
  • Doctrinal Black (Negrum Doctrinae)#000000 — RGB 0 / 0 / 0 — Absolute background; space under jurisdiction.

§4.2 — Secondary colours

  • Vigil Gold (Aurum Vigiliae)#C9A227 — RGB 201 / 162 / 39 — Inscriptions, virtues, decorations, memorials.
  • Limit White (Album Limitis)#FFFFFF — RGB 255 / 255 / 255 — Glyph outlines; division of inside from outside.

§4.3 — Tertiary colour (structural)

  • Graphite Grey (Cinis Limitis)#3A3A3A — RGB 58 / 58 / 58 — Doctrinal circles, technical lines, dividers.

§4.4 — Auxiliary operational colours

For the Discord technical layer where the colour engine reduces fidelity:

  • Institutional Embed Red#8B0000 — institutional Discord embeds (compatibility with templates T-01 to T-17).
  • Alert Red#FF0000 — alarm embeds and Purge Bulletin.
  • Event Black#1C1C1C — training and event embeds.

Reconciliation note: The Institutional Embed Red (#8B0000) does not replace the Crimson Red (#661414) of the primary palette. It is an operational colour, restricted to the Discord technical layer. On any colour-faithful medium (print, web, artwork), #661414 always applies.

V §5 Typography

The Republic does not impose a single typeface but fixes authorised families by function. Principle: gravity, legibility, absence of unnecessary ornament.

  • Doctrinal titles and ceremonial headersTrajan Pro / Cinzel; safe substitute Cormorant Garamond (small caps); regular or bold weight.
  • Institutional body textEB Garamond / Source Serif Pro; safe substitute Georgia; regular weight.
  • Operational text (briefings, AAR, lists) — Inter / IBM Plex Sans; safe substitute Arial / Helvetica; regular or medium.
  • Glyph inscriptions (virtues)Eurostile Extended / Bank Gothic; safe substitute Oswald (condensed); bold, all caps.
  • Code, technical embeds, handlesJetBrains Mono / IBM Plex Mono; safe substitute Consolas; regular weight.

Typographic rules

  • Mottoes always in italic.
  • Doctrinal terms in Latin in italic.
  • Ranks and proper names in bold on first appearance in a document.
  • Never mix more than two families on a single medium.
  • Never apply effects (shadow, outline, gradient) on the glyph.
VI §6 Usage Rules

§6.1 — Minimum clear space

The glyph requires a breathing margin equal to 20% of its height on all sides. No graphic element, photograph, or text may invade this perimeter.

§6.2 — Minimum reproduction size

  • Digital: 64 × 64 px.
  • Print: 12 mm in height.
  • Below these thresholds, use the simplified silhouette (without inscribed virtues).

§6.3 — Background application

  • Black / saturated dark — full chromatic or gold monochrome.
  • White / light — black monochrome or full.
  • Institutional red (#661414) — gold or white monochrome.
  • Photograph — apply a black containment box; never directly over a photograph.
  • Camouflage / noisy texture — forbidden; apply a clean substrate.

§6.4 — Categorical prohibitions

  • Do not rotate the glyph. Its geometry is axial.
  • Do not invert the chromatic palette (red and black swapped).
  • Do not recolour the virtues.
  • Do not crop the glyph partially (no bleed across the margin).
  • Do not combine the glyph with foreign symbols without formal sanction.
  • Do not apply the glyph in external commerce, unauthorised merchandise, or third-party fiction without internal licence.
  • Do not use decorative filters (neon, glitch, vaporwave, etc.). The Republic is not an aesthetic; it is an institution.

§6.5 — Accessibility and contrast

  • Crimson Red on Black: minimum contrast 4.5:1 for small text. Where insufficient, use Limit White as reinforcement.
  • Vigil Gold on Black: adequate contrast for titles; avoid for body text below 14 pt.
  • Limit White is always acceptable as a reinforcing outline.
VII §7 Ceremonial Application & Lifecycle

§7.1 — Ceremonial application

  • Official seal / Charter — full glyph + Motto Tier II.
  • Doctrinal bulletin — black monochrome glyph + Motto Tier I.
  • Operation briefing — silhouette glyph + Motto Tier III.
  • Actum Gladii — gold monochrome glyph + closing Actum est. Signatum est. Remissum ad Magistrum.
  • Memorial — gold monochrome glyph + closing Memoria Aeterna. Vigil Perpetua.
  • Public recruitment — full glyph + Motto Tier I.

§7.2 — Source files

Source files of the glyph are kept in the binary library annexum. Production of derivative files (vector SVG, transparent PNG in three sizes, EPS, ICO) is the responsibility of the Communications & Propaganda Directorate.

§7.3 — Revision cycle and versioning

  • Ordinary revision: annual.
  • Extraordinary revision: by sanction of the Magister Vigiliae or High Command.
  • Any change generates a new version (V3, V4, …). The previous version is archived and is not edited.
