Codex Liber III T1_RANKS L3.T1.A001
How the Republic Stands in Formation

Organisation & Communications

Status · vigens Liber · Organica Sources · 1
I §1 Recruitment Pipeline

The Republic's intake is staged: Awareness → Consideration → Conversion → Integration → Retention. Conversion branches at the Consideration stage to the Civis sworn track or to the Peregrinus Vigiliae unsworn track, by the candidate's own choice.

Operational details for each stage are kept in L3.T5 (Recrutamentum). The pipeline is the entry door of the Republic; it is not improvised, and the Recruitment & Citizenship Directorate (Praetoria Civium) administers it.

II §2 Ranks and Progression
Canonical note: The ranks below apply exclusively to sworn Citizens. Peregrini Vigiliae hold no rank; Foederati hold external identity only.
  • Consul Primus — apex authority, head of High Command.
  • Praetor (Director) — head of one Directorate.
  • Praefectus (Commander) — wing / squadron / division leadership.
  • Centurio (Officer) — direct member and operations management.
  • Decanus (Veteran) — informal mentor; operational anchor.
  • Miles (Soldier) — full operational Citizen.
  • Civis (Citizen) — integrated member establishing record.
  • Tiro (Recruit) — provisional candidate.

Progression is meritocratic. There is no purchased rank. There is no seniority without substance. Promotion to Praefectus and above requires sanction from the relevant Praetor and an entry on the doctrinal record.

External tracks: Legatus Foederatus — coordinates as Praefectus-equivalent only during joint operations; holds no Republic rank. Miles Foederatus — no Republic rank. Peregrinus Vigiliae — by canonical prohibition (⊘), holds no rank.

III §3 Directorates and the Operations Cycle

High Command is composed of ten Directorates — eight vertical (Operations, Industry, Frontier, Engineering, Medical, Logistics, Intelligence, Communications) and two horizontal (Recruitment & Citizenship, Doctrine & Discipline) — plus the specialised Quaestor Aerarii (Treasury Office) and the parallel column of the Holy Office.

The Operations Cycle has five stages: Announcement → Briefing → Execution → Debriefing → Doctrine Loop. Peregrini receive all operation announcements and may attend the operational layer; the doctrinal layer (Pillar invocation, ritual closing) is conducted by sworn Officers.

IV §4 In-branch Specialised Titles

Each Cohors layers specialised operational designations over the canonical horizontal rank. The pattern is [Rank] — [Latin specialisation] and is informal-operational, not promotional.

  • Cohors ArmaCenturio — Trierarchos (capital ship captain), Centurio — Decurio Squadronis (squadron leader), Centurio — Pilus Prior (century commander).
  • Cohors IndustriaCenturio — Magister Fodinae (Mining Guild Master), and the corresponding Magister for each of the five guilds.
  • Cohors FrontisCenturio — Dux Expeditionis (Expedition Commander).
  • Cohors OperaCenturio — Architectus Primus (Chief Engineer / Project Lead).
  • Cohors MedicinaCenturio — Medicus Primus (Chief Medical Officer).
  • Cohors SubsidiumCenturio — Annonarius Primus (Quartermaster Officer).
  • Cohors VigiliaCenturio — Analysator Primus (Chief Analyst, External or Internal).
  • Cohors VoxCenturio — Editor (Editor-in-chief, External or Internal).

Canonical rules: the rank in inter-Branch and inter-Directorate documents is always the horizontal rank (Praefectus, Centurio, Decanus, Miles); the specialised suffix is operational shorthand. Specialisation changes when the operational assignment changes within the Branch — it is not promoted or demoted.
