Profundum — The Deep
Profundum — the deep — is the domain of capital ships and the void fleet. Eleven Classes: three Founding, four Vigil, four Modern. All burn Deuteride, Reaction Mass and Translation Mass; all are jump-capable.
The domain divides cleanly by endurance: sub-capitals carry long-voyage endurance — weeks to months, still dependent on a resupply chain — while capitals carry voidfleet endurance: months to years, food produced aboard, water reclaimed in full, atmosphere recycled, deep magazine. A capital does not depend on a supply chain for routine operation. This is what makes “capital” a measurable distinction rather than a label.
Scarcity follows the same line. Frigates and destroyers are limited; carriers and capital warships are strategic — few in number, and the loss of one is a fleet-strategic event.
Founding era
- Watcher — Frigate, 3 200 t. Reserve; heritage refits still in active service.
- Saeculum — Capital Warship, 120 000 t. Reserve; two heritage hulls remain active. The founding capital line of the regular Republic.
- Custos — Capital Warship, 210 000 t. The Adyton's founding capital line, and the largest hull the Republic acknowledges. In service; disposition sealed. Its canonical anchor is the Custos Saeculorum.
Vigil era
- Sentry — Frigate, 4 500 t.
- Lance — Destroyer, 11 500 t.
- Eyrie — Carrier, 65 000 t.
- Mainstay — Capital Warship, 180 000 t.
Modern era
- Vigil — Frigate, 5 500 t. The hull that runs the boneyard patrols.
- Halberd — Destroyer, 13 500 t.
- Skyhold — Carrier, 85 000 t. The one doctrinal evolution in eight centuries: the Modern carrier carries a capital-grade shield, where the Vigil-era carrier did not.
- Praetorian — Capital Warship, 250 000 t.
The Adyton's capital is larger than anything the regular Republic fields, and it was laid at the founding. Eight centuries of Rampart Yards work have not matched it — which is the catalogue's quietest statement of what the Adyton is.
